- Our project aiming at providing education to particularly destitute children in the slum of Chennai is going full speed. The twelve sponsored kids registered for the school year 2010/2011 have all been promoted to the next level. For 2011/2012 all twenty-three kids have found a sponsor and for the 2012-2013 school year already 6 kids have found a sponsor and we are looking for more. For more informationsee our page Projects.
- Thecompany IDIS allowed us to start our support to the project "Stop the baby girls feticides and infanticides in India" in early 2010. Thanks to generous sponsors , this project is going on in 2012 for the third year and we keep thinking that it is of the utmost importance.
Girls education is fully part of this project. Here is related news recently receivedfrom Dr. Meeta Singh:
“I am delighted to inform you that the first phase of vocational training in computer literacy and operations kicked off on Feb 2, 2012 at village Kot Kasim, district Alwar. 10 girls from the most under privileged section of society have been selected to undertake the three month training program. The course entails two hours of computer classes each day 5 days a week. The girls are all students of grades 9 to 12 in the local government school and in the age group of 14-17. They will put in two hours everyday from 8 to 10 am before regular school starts. The girls are happy and excited and have promised to work hard so that they can go onto the next level and become accountants and teachers etc... In the accompanying pictures they are listening to the project being explained and standing with small banners that advocate for the dignity of the girl child. We wish them good luck as they start on a new chapter of their lives. Shall keep you posted on their progress."

Another one of our acquaintances in India, Anne Bino, tells us of her experience with the following message:
”Our native, Kanya Kumari is not a poor district. Most of the people here are educated and matured now. But this was not the case before 15 years, they hate baby girls. But now almost 85% of the girls study engineering and work in IT industries and lead a very good life. So abandoning baby girls have considerably reduced in Kanya Kumari. But as you rightly said in other parts of India this still happens, especially in an uneducated family.”It shows that improvements are possible and we will try and see how this region managed these changes in order to apply the same methods to other parts of India.
